Steyer gains significant momentum in new Morning Consult and Emerson polls
Tom Steyer is already polling at 4% in the early primary states of New Hampshire, lowa, South Carolina and Nevada just three weeks into his Presidential Campaign, according to a new Morning Consult poll. That’s double the support of some candidates who have been in the race much longer, and Steyer trails Mayor Pete Buttigieg by only 2%.
"I’m excited to see that my focus on reclaiming our government from corporations and pushing power to the American people is resonating with voters," Steyer said. "It’s imperative that we beat Donald Trump in 2020, and I’m the Democrat who can do it. I can’t wait to take the debate stage in September and address the American people directly."
An Emerson poll released yesterday shows Steyer polling at 2% nationally, putting him ahead of the vast majority of the 2020 candidates. He’s already secured two of the four qualifying polls needed to make the September and October debate stages. Steyer likely would have qualified for the July debate had he declared his candidacy sooner. He’s quickly met the polling criteria to be part of the debate after entering the race July 9, but the cutoff to qualify was July 16.
Steyer has led the way in speaking out against President Trump, even releasing an ad this week called "Trump is a Fraud." In the ad, he notes: “Unlike other candidates, I can go head to head with Donald Trump on the economy and expose him for what he is - a fraud and a failure.”
