EL PASO, TX - Today, Beto O’Rourke traveled to Juárez to grieve with the community affected by Saturday’s shooting. Eight Mexican nationals died in the attack, which was explicitly targeted at Latinx immigrants. President Trump did not include Mexican officials in his visit to El Paso on Wednesday.

After walking over the Paso del Norte International Bridge, Beto met with Chihuahua Governor Javier Corral and Juárez Mayor Armando Cabada to express his condolences. He then attended the funeral of one of the victims.

When asked by the media why he was making the trip to Juárez, Beto answered, “This feels very much like the right thing to do. And it feels very much like what we’ve always done in this binational community.”

Beto also responded to the latest attacks from President Trump today. A video clip surfaced this morning that revealed the President attacked Beto as “crazy” during his visit to an El Paso hospital to meet with shooting victims and first responders. Beto responded, “This community is focused on healing. Not hatred. Not racism. Certainly not crowd sizes. Our community — and our country — will not be defined by Donald Trump’s smallness. We will be defined by the love, compassion, and strength of El Paso.”
