Going into the Second Debate, Polls Show Strong Support for Medicare for America, Beto in Texas

Two polls released earlier this week show strong support for Beto O’Rourke and his policy agenda for health care. According to a CBS/YouGov poll released Sunday, Beto is polling only behind Joe Biden in the delegate rich, super-Tuesday state of Texas. This is the fourth consecutive major poll showing the El Pasoan either first or second in the state. On Monday, a Marist/NPR poll also found that Democrats support a Medicare for America-like plan over Medicare for All by a margin of nearly 30 points (90-64).

Texas has the second most delegates of any early state. According to a CBS analysis of likely delegate allocation, Beto’s strong support in Texas also means that he’s among the top five candidates in the entire primary race. He’s also one of six candidates expected to have any delegates after Super Tuesday - the others being Klobuchar, Warren, Sanders, Harris and Biden.

“Beto’s strong and sustained support in Texas means that if you know Beto, you support him,” Aleigha Cavalier, National Press Secretary.  “With nearly 200 days until Iowa, and 85 percent of voters still undecided, Beto is taking the same successful barnstorming approach he took across all 254 counties of Texas to early states across the country.”
